Bas-Ket-Ball, Pancake Breakfast, Caron Dance Benefit
Here are five things going on in the area today.
Good morning, Granbys! Today is Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012; there are 352 days left in the year.
I was commiserating with Perry Robbin, the excellent local editor of Suffield Patch, about a girls basketball game that I covered last night. For some reason Kurtis Blow’s “Basketball” came to mind. So, here’s today’s treat, courtesy of The Granbys Patch. Gotta love a track that gives a shout out to former New York Knick scoring machine Bernard King.
Oh, and man have we come a long way in terms of the production quality of our rap videos. This one looks like some sick leftover from the set of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.” What dudes engaging in karate kick fights have to do with basketball, I have no idea, but I’m sure James Naismith had it in mind when he invented the sport.
Here’s your Daily 5:
1. There’s a pancake breakfast for the Marquis of Granby at the First Congregational Church of Granby. All proceeds will go towards supporting the Marquis trip to Switzerland in 2012. Tickets are $7.50 for adults, $5 for children with a family maximum of $30. Breakfast will include pancakes (a gluten free option wil be available for 50 cents more), real maple syrup, bacon, orange juice and coffee with free refills.
2. The Jurassic Treehouse opens at the Children’s Museum in West Hartford today. Check it out.
3. There’s a home schoolers used curriculum sale in Windsor today.
4. There will be a Dance Party in Ellington to benefit Greg Caron, a U.S. Marine from Ellington who was recently injured in the line of duty and lost both of his legs from the knee down.
5. Also from the Simsbury Patch: Arts Exclusive Gallery presents "The Winter Showcase" in Simsbury.
